In The Begnning...
Search ME was founded by Gordon Brown, Scottish International Rugby player ( Broon fra Troon ) and his wife Linda, who has suffered from ME for many years. Unfortunately Gordon was diagnosed with cancer and after putting up a great fight, as he always did on the rugby field, he sadly died. Linda was approached by a cancer charity to help raise funds and by coincidence Robert Sclater, who is a close friend of Linda’s twin sister Sheila was looking to form an ME charity at that time. Both Robert and Sheila have also suffered from ME for many years and it was seen as a natural progression that Robert take over the running of the Search ME charity. This was in the summer of 2002 and as Robert has always been very keen on music he decided that Search ME would attempt to raise all funds through Rock and Pop concerts. He was introduced to Bev and Ronnie that summer and when they heard the plight of many people who are suffering from ME they came on board with great enthusiasm. “ “The Team” was formed.
First Gig...
Our first gig was held in The Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline on Friday 20 December ( Black Friday )where, along with a strong array of local bands, Dunfermline’s Rock Legends Nazareth topped the bill. There was a superb party atmosphere that night which will be difficult to beat. On that night the amazing sum of £14,000.00 was raised for Search ME. The feed back after the gig confirmed that a great time was had by all. Donations received in the days following the gig took the total to just under £16,000.00. An auction was held during this event where a local man paid a record sum of £1400.00 for a guitar signed by Nazareth and Status Quo.
The Learning Curve...
We are now involved in learning how to put on shows and finding out how the music business works. We have worked with a host of artists which so far include Fish, Peter Green, Lights out by Nine, Stevie Agnew Band, Suzi Quatro, Blazin Squad, Matt Goss, Peter Andre and the great Status Quo and as previously mentioned our own local heroes Nazareth to name but a few. We have collected and continue to collect signed Rock and Pop memorabilia that we will auction at a later date. ( See Merchandising Photo Gallery )
Should you have any signed Rock and Pop items you wish to donate please contact us.
Watch this space for future gigs, auctions, merchandising and fund raising events.
